Sunny San Diego!

John went with me to San Diego for my annual American Association of Swine Veterinarians conference.  The kids were super excited to spend five days with Grandma and Grandpa Carroll and I think that Grandma and Grandpa were pretty excited for them to come spend some time with them.  And, of course, John and I were also eager to spend a few days on our own, so it was a win-win-win situation!  We left Indy early Friday morning around 20 degrees and got to San Diego and enjoyed some 80 degree weather!  It was BEAUTIFUL and very warm Friday and Saturday.  Sunday and Monday were nice as well - long sleeve weather rather than shorts weather though.  I spent most of the time in educational sessions, but did make sure to get some time to enjoy the warm sun!
We enjoyed an evening aboard the USS Midway Friday night, hosted by a pharmaceutical company.  It was cool to see all the planes and helicopters up close - dozens of them parked on top deck of this huge aircraft carrier.  They also had some parachuters jump onto the deck of the ship and even set off fireworks from the ship.  It was a fun evening!
Here is a view of part of the USS Midway during the day - a huge and very impressive ship!
A wonderful view from a pedestrian bridge down the street from our hotel.
Our hotel was right beside the Seaside Village which had lots of shops and restaurants, as well as many street performers and entertainment.  Things we normally don't see in Indiana small towns:)  We enjoyed watching the kite flyer, rock stacker, clown magician, silver statue guy, parrot guy and many others - not quite as interested in all the fortune tellers and tarot/palm readers.

It was a great trip.  I always enjoy the conference - time to catch up with friends and learn lots of the latest educational swine veterinary material.  And the kids had tons of fun at Grandma and Grandpa's too apparently, although we were all very happy to get back home together.
