Trucks, Tractors, Excavators, Bulldozers, Wagons, Balers...

I think Blaine has a bit of an obsession with farm and construction equipment!  And his Daddy helps fuel this obsession of course:)  He always wants to play tractors and often has to load up several to take to the sitter for the day.  But just a few more examples...

  • He had to haul hay while he ate lunch today (ignore the fact that the hay bale is bigger than either the tractor or the wagon:) )  He kept also telling me that he needed 'hydrous tank but I convinced him that he didn't need to apply anhydrous as he hauled hay.
  • Last week after returning from church on Wednesday night (Blaine's night to hang out with Daddy), I asked John about their night and he informed me that he had to look up a YouTube video so that he could show Blaine how to properly load an excavator onto a low-boy trailer.  Apparently Blaine was trying to haul his excavator with his dump truck or hopper bottom trailer, so John had to look up a video, then let Blaine borrow his semi with a low-boy trailer so that they could properly load Blaine's excavator.  Then John brings home a new semi for Blaine a couple of days later, so looks like the Easter Bunny is bringing Blaine a new semi and trailer so that he can haul his equipment correctly!
  • I had to take Blaine with me to a farm this morning to write some health papers for some club pigs heading to a sale this weekend.  I kept asking him about going to a farm and look at some pigs, but he would just tell me he was going to "take parts" or "sell parts" - like Daddy I guess!  He was intrigued a bit by the pigs and calves, as well as the cats and dog, but got really excited about the tractors he saw!
  • When the kids stayed at Grandma and Grandpa's a few weeks ago, Blaine came home with a small excavator and bulldozer that Grandpa gave him.  Blaine has taken these with him many places already and on more than one occasion, they have had to sit on his nightstand and "watch him sleep".
  • He is always looking out the window as we drive down the road and spotting any kind of tractor, implement, semi or construction equipment.  As we drove by one farm this morning, he was excited to see a semi truck loading corn with an auger - even whining obsessively to go back and see it again and telling Ava about it several hours later after we picked he up from school.
  • Not only do John and Blaine watch YouTube videos of proper excavator loading, but they have often also watched tractor pulls.  Blaine often climbs up the counter, points at the computer and wants to see tractor pulls.  They also love to watch tractor pulling on TV and John often remembers exactly when the weekly tractor pulling show is on RFDTV so that they can catch it together.  We must have been really deprived kids without the convenience of YouTube - videos of basically whatever you want to see on demand all the time!
Fun to watch him have so much fun with his trucks and tractors, but I really wonder if this is normal for a 2 year old to know exactly what EVERY piece of equipment is, how it is used, and how to haul it?!?!
