My Mom's birthday was Saturday and I was trying to figure out what to do for her and wasn't coming up with any ideas of what to get her, so I made a last minute decision to just make the trip over there to surprise her. After checking with Dad to ensure that they had no Friday night or Saturday morning plans, the kids and I headed out after lunch. We spent some time playing with Grandpa for a couple of hours before Grandma got home from work. Then the kids had a plan to hide in the toy room when she came home and surprise her when Grandpa brought her back there to look at the new paint job he had just completed. She was quite surprised, although I believe that she heard Blaine before she got back the hallway - hard to keep a 2 year old quite for a surprise! Regardless, it was a nice trip and probably better than any other present I could have thought of to send her. The kids had picked out some balloons for her - I am sure that the princesses, Tinkerbell, Lightning McQueen and football balloons were right up Grandma's ally! We also stopped to get her an ice cream cake at DQ on the way. The kids were more than happy to deck it out in some candles, help blow them out and enjoy some cake!
Then the cousins came over Saturday morning to play for a bit before we went home again. They love to play with each other and Ava REALLY wishes we lived closer to play more often. Blaine is becoming quite the Grandpa's boy too - always wanting to help him, go outside with him or play tractors with him - fun to see. Ava also LOVES holding Baby Carson - she immediately wanted to hold him as soon as he got there and then again later. She is so good with him - constantly talking to him and being such a little babysitter:) He really responds to her too - she loves it and feels pretty special when he smiles or laughs at her. She better get all the baby holding in now since he won't fit on her lap before long if he keeps up his current growth rate! This little 4 month old weighs nearly 20 pounds already!
