One tractor + one loving neighbor = 2 VERY happy kids!!!
Although planting season means that we don't see John quite as much as normal, the kids love seeing all the tractors around and watching the planting progress. After a cold, wet start, planting season is now well under way and should soon be over. Not only do my kids love tractors, they also love our neighbor, Rick. So when they saw Rick planting corn near our house after coming home from work the other day, they immediately wanted to take a walk and go "help" him. I obliged with the walk part, but didn't let them ask him for a ride since he was just getting started in that field and getting his field mapped out with the GPS and so on. I really didn't feel that he needed an added burden of two extra kids helping him push all the buttons! So I made them a deal that if we went back home and ate a quick supper, I would bring them back to ask for a ride. So that's what we did. And, of course, Rick can never tell them no and enjoys having the kids around, so I think that they all had a good time. After watching Blaine sit on Rick's lap for a couple of rounds though, I did realize another benefit of the modern technology of GPS guidance - I am sure that it is much easier to plant in straight lines with a two year old on your lap with auto-steer technology than in the "old days" when you actually had to steer yourself!!! The only part that the kids didn't like was when I made them get out of the tractor to come home for a bath and bed:)
