Gingerbread Houses!

I don't believe that I have actually made gingerbread houses ever in my lifetime, but I decided that it would be a fun experience to do with the kids.  I didn't go all out and make and cut out actual gingerbread, but went with graham crackers instead.  And I learned a lot about the construction process along the way - let's just say that they last one I put together looked better than the first:).  But decorations and candy cover a lot of flaws!  I hot glued the houses together since I was really skeptical that they would actually stay together with little kids working on them if I constructed them with frosting.  The hot glue worked well and I even glued them to the plates.
The kids LOVED this project!!!  What's not to love when you combine crafts with candy?!  And I loved the fact that this project helped diminish the ever-full candy bowl.  John was a bit reluctant when I made houses for each of us and told him that he had to stay inside and make his gingerbread house rather then head out to the tool shed.  But he actually really enjoyed the process I believe;)
After all, the kids would not have learned how to make yellow snow with tiny little pretzel "dog poop" in the yard of their gingerbread houses if Daddy hadn't been there and made that by his house first!  Here are all the finished creations - Blaine's, Ava's, John's and mine (L-R).
They were pretty proud of their final projects.  They were only finalized because we made them quit and the candy was running out.  Even though there wasn't hardly a bare spot left, they seemed to still be able to continue finding spots to "glue" more candy on.  We may have to make this an annual Christmas project.
