Our Holiday weekend was not all that exciting - i.e. full of travel, festivities, cook-outs, planned activities, etc. but it was very enjoyable. It is often hard to plan a lot for Memorial Day weekend when married to a parts guy - pretty busy this time of year! So all of our activities were rather impromptu. I had t-ball practice Saturday afternoon and we then went over to John's parents' for an impromptu cook-out. Ava decided that made a good reason to make cupcakes, so we made some chocolate cupcakes with bright yellow frosting to take with us. The kids also enjoyed making smores - a given if you are having a cookout with Grandma:)
Ava was wanting to have a friend over to play Sunday afternoon and we found a friend that was free to come! Ava and Madie had a great time playing together and getting all wet with squirt guns and slip 'n slide. I am so glad that she has some good friends like this:)On Memorial Day, we started out by visiting cemeteries of John's grandparents. The kids don't remember all of these people, but do at least remember great-grandma Woods. They are extremely blessed to not only have known her, but to also still have 3 great-grandparents on my side of the family. We had some great discussions about veterans that fought for our country as they took note of all the flags and special markers on the graves of veterans - including their great-grandpa Zarse. After paying our respects and learning about the meaning of Memorial Day, we headed to Happy Hollow Park for to walk some trails and play. We really need to do things like this more often. Great family time walking through the woods and so many things to see and learn. Amazing how many impromptu science or life lessons come up when doing everyday things like taking walks in the woods.
