Ava had her first school field day yesterday and I was fortunate enough to be able to help out. I love being able to help out at her school from time to time. By working 3-4 days a week, I am blessed with some flexibility in my work schedule to participate in things like this. Of course, like most non-work days, I spent some time returning phone calls, texts and e-mails from clients, but I never mind that. And Ava was thrilled that I was there to eat a picnic lunch with her class and then participate in field day all afternoon.
I had a group of 9 kids to lead from station to station. I had lots of fun with them! We started with the Builders and Bulldozers station as kids ran wildly around stacking (builders) and unstacking (bulldozers) buckets. They also enjoyed the egg race. After jumping wildly in a bounce house (only one crash which required a trip to the nurses office for ice packs) and racing through the huge inflatable obstacle course/slide, the kids welcomed the Popsicle station! I had to snap this picture of Ava and her friend Trey - I hear about Trey often:) Actually, I hear about many of the boys in her class much more often than the girls. Seems like the boys are some of her better friends. But I know the boys that she talks about and their families - she is making good friend choices. Most of her best girl friends are in the other kindergarten classes. But I did notice that Trey and Ava often seemed to be close together:)
The kids enjoyed the parachute station too, evening talking me into participating with them. I remember always loving playing with the big parachute in gym class too! But it was VERY hot inside the parachute mushroom! A kind of cool picture from inside the mushroom though.
All of the kids were feeling like Ava here about half way through the field day stations:) It was a rather hot an very muggy afternoon. After a break and water station, they had a bit of a second wind, but they all were hot, tired and sweaty kids by the time they were done! So much fun though - a full afternoon of recess basically:)
