Indiana State Fair!

We haven't visited the State Fair for the past couple of years, but decided to make the trip this year.  It was a beautiful day and the kids had tons of fun with everything there was to see and do.  Of course, Blaine made it clear that he wanted to see tractors as soon as we got there - his only priorities:).  But he enjoyed all the other things too.  They got to visit a "pig barn" - just like Mommy works with all the time!
They also got to be "farmers" - donning an apron and their new Pioneer hats, grabbing a bucket and setting down the path to harvest corn and beans, plant peppers, collect eggs, harvest their peppers, turn in their beans to make biodiesel fuel to drive their tractors around, harvest apples, feed their corn to the calves, collect some wool and sell their products at the market.  They then got a dollar to buy some farm products - apples, applesauce, milk, cheese, granola bars, etc.  This was a fun experience for them.  They also posed as a tractor driver during their farming course:)
We visited the new Glass Barn at the fair this year - they liked "Benny the Bean", who is the mascot of the Indiana Soybean Association.  This appeared to be a popular place and it did a great job showcasing Indiana agriculture and allowed the public to meet and virtually tour some Indiana farms.
The photo-op at the Glass Barn was pretty cool too!  The kids wanted a picture with beans rather than with the cows or pigs but I thought that they were all really neat - and so easy to do and then e-mail to yourself.
The kids also liked seeing all the fish in the DNR building, and also watching the kids fishing in the outside pond area - just like they did at Grandma and Grandpa's pond recently.  And Blaine loves to really cheese it up for any pictures!  He always  has this huge cheesy grin and squinty eyes - I should quit trying to get him to look and pose for pictures since this is what I always get!
Speaking of cheese, we saw the big cheese sculpture too - amazes me with the talent showcased here in using various cheeses to make a work of art.
All of this, in addition to miniature golf and playground area, seeing lots of livestock, watching some goat show, getting some garden seeds to plant, listening to story time and getting a new Cat in the Hat book, yummy pork burger lunch, watching pole vaulters and lots more.  Then we had to end our visit with some ice cream from the Dairy Bar before we headed home - a long line but worth the wait:)  We all had a great day and the kids are ready to go back again!
