Thanks to a couple of nice neighbors (thank you Amy & Carla!!!), I ended up with a lot of apples to make applesauce with this past weekend. Ava was very excited to help me with the process -first of all handing me apples to quarter before cooking. Although, she often got caught up with playing with the worms that we found in some apples and fell behind in her job:)
After cooking them, we took them outside to squeeze them. Ava liked both the cranking and the smashing jobs. Although, we both found out that you need to be careful not to splatter the apples or juices because they were very hot! In no time, the cooked apples turned into lot of applesauce. We added a bit of cinnamon and sugar and froze 15 quart bags full of applesauce - yummy!!!It looked like a lot of applesauce, but the truth is that it won't really last that long around our house. John loves applesauce and eats it with nearly every meal - dipping all of his food in it. And the kids have inherited this trait as well - they will dip all kinds of food in applesauce, like Daddy does! I like applesauce, but I consider myself more of a "normal" applesauce connoisseur and eat it as a side dish rather than a condiment like the rest of my household!
