Vacation Bible School

It has been a crazy busy week!  I co-directed VBS at our church again this year and although I love VBS, I am always a bit glad to see the last day come since it is a lot of work and time consuming.  We do have the closing program yet tomorrow morning to culminate a week filled with lots of kids learning to stand strong in the battle for truth by utilizing the armor of God.  It continues to amaze me how much the little minds soak up even when you think that they really aren't paying that much attention or that the material may be a bit much for them.  Of course, when I would ask Ava what she learned or what they talked about at VBS each day, she never seemed to remember, but all kinds of information would come out later in random conversation.  Overall, it was a great week of VBS and we reached around 90 kids in all.  Ava took a moment for a picture with her crown project on the first day.

We have a missions focus every year at VBS as well and we decided to focus on the local food pantry this year so we challenged the kids to bring monetary and food donations for the food pantry throughout the week.  The had the incentive of being able to throw water balloons at some helpers if they met their goal of $350 worth of money and food.  They did a great job and ended up with $430!!  So they had a great time throwing water balloons the last day!  And Mr. Glen was a great sport, serving as a fill-in target last minute - donning his (kid-sized) armor of God to battle the water balloons:)
Of course, I was also trying to fit work into the schedule this week and that seemed extra busy as well - apparently all my clients knew I had VBS in the mornings and decided that they needed urgent vet calls as well!  Our normal babysitter was also on vacation and my backup was also unavailable one day, so that also messed things up a bit more.  But it all worked out fine - thanks to a great neighbor that was willing to give Ava rides after VBS on days that I went to work and also keep the kids all afternoon on Monday (THANKS Carla!!), as well as a wonderful husband that was also willing to pick up kids when I was running late after farm calls.  But I am ready to get back to a "normal" schedule again - although I am not sure that is really going to happen as I looked at our summer calendar!
