Happy Birthday John!

We kind of celebrated John's birthday all weekend, although his birthday was actually Sunday.  Friday morning, the kids and I headed to Lafayette to do some birthday present shopping, then had lunch at DQ and picked up an ice cream cake.  The kids requested that they write "Happy Birthday Daddy" in John Deere green and yellow since we were taking it to surprise Daddy at work.  Daddy was very surprised to see us show up with ice cream cake, just in time for dessert after lunch!  And the word quickly spread that there was ice cream cake, as a bunch of hungry guys seemed to swarm like vultures to the break room!  I knew I had to get the big cake - there were still no leftovers!

Then on Saturday night, we took the kids to a tractor pull.  They were SOOOO wound up and excited Saturday afternoon about the prospect of going to the pull!  Ava loves going with Daddy to truck and tractor pulls and was the self-proclaimed "expert", telling Blaine all about what to expect at his first tractor pull:).  The pull ended up not being all that great - the track was really wet and it started an hour late and there were a few tractors that didn't make it off the start line.  But the kids really didn't seem to care - they liked watching the tractors working the track too.  And since the track was a bit muddy, they reversed the order of the classes and pulled the tractors first rather than the trucks, which made me happier.  I don't like the noisy trucks as well and it was the biggest class.  I don't know if Blaine was disappointed that no wheels fell off or not - that is what he kept talking about as he prepared for the pull!  He has watched too much tractor pulling (and pulling mishaps) on RFDTV with Daddy:)  Regardless, it was a fun evening and we got left before the rain hit!
So on Sunday, the kids actually slept in after the late night of tractor pulling - a nice present for Daddy on his birthday!  Then after church and nap time, we went to a graduation party, then on to Lafayette to meet the rest of John's family to celebrate John and his Mom's birthday (both on June 2) at TGI Friday's.  The kids had a good time going out to eat with the cousins and grandma and grandpa!  But even better, we went to Cold Stone Creamery for dessert!  That is some of the best ice cream!!  I wasn't paying too much attention as John helped Ava order hers, so she ended up with dark chocolate ice cream with sprinkles, M&Ms, gummy bears and I don't know what else mixed in - then put in a cone!  A big, sloppy cone!  Amazingly, the ice cream only ended up all over her face and hands, not her clothes or the ground.  I did make sure to get an extra cup and spoon since I knew not all of that ice cream was going to stay on her cone.
We had a busy weekend, but lots of fun.  Now, we are starting a few weeks of extra running with Ava's swim lessons for 2 weeks, then VBS.  Should be lots more fun!  Now, if it would just warm up a bit so that it actually feels like summer!
