After some late snows and cold spring so far, I was pleased to actually have some nice warm spring-like weather this weekend. The tractors have started rolling in our neck of the woods, which means my husband will start becoming more scarce around home for the next couple of months. So we made the most of this great weather to get some outside projects accomplished this weekend. Got some fertilizer put on the yard and garden - both kids loved the chance to drive the old lawnmower all by themselves to spread fertilizer. Then we had great plans to get the garden tilled on Saturday - going to borrow the neighbor's tractor to run the tiller for a quick job. However, things don't always go as planned - John stopped to pick up the tractor and it wouldn't start. So that plan didn't happen. However, John had some parts to deliver to another neighbor down the road so as we were working outside, we just all hopped on the Ranger and ran the parts down. As the kids gave the neighbor his tractor parts, he started asking John about how his day was going and so on. As John mentioned that he didn't end up getting the garden tilled as planned, he told us just to borrow his small compact tractor sitting in the shop. Great to have such awesome neighbors around! The garden worked up beautifully and was ready to plant then on Sunday afternoon. I planted some potatoes, a little lettuce, carrots and corn. I am not totally convinced we are out of a frost danger, so didn't go too crazy planting stuff, even though my help wanted to plant it all:)
Then, since we were outside and on a roll, I decided to pick up sticks out of the yard. This was a great plan, but then I saw some dead limbs up in the trees... So I was able to pull some of them down, but then I saw more... and they were higher... Before I knew it, I was climbing a tree to pull down some dead limbs. Then John and Ava came out looking for the Ranger and found Blaine watching Mommy climb around in a tree. Then I found some more trees with dead limbs that I thought I could reach if I climbed high enough... Then decided I could reach some more if I used the hoe to grab them as I climbed... Then a few more that I could saw off while I climbed... We ended up with A LOT of dead limbs on the ground - I finally got a couple of the big dead limbs that had been hung up in a tree after breaking off in an ice storm a couple of years ago. And got several dead limbs out of the tree that seemed to have lost a lot last year for some reason. I was kind of excited about my progress! I know - doesn't take much to excite me:) And I made it safely down from all the trees - although my body knows that I have not climbed trees for MANY years! But all my climbing served dual purpose - also giving me a chance to teach Ava how to properly and safely climb trees since she is quite the little monkey tree climber herself:) Soooo ready for spring and looking forward to spending a lot more time outside!!!!
