Bad News for Allie
After Blaine had a croupy cough and stridor again on Thanksgiving (making 5-6 times this past year), I finally scheduled an appointment with an asthma and allergy doctor. We went to see that doctor yesterday and although Blaine's case is a bit different, he thinks that Blaine has a form of cough-variant asthma that causes some of his croupy coughing episodes. He also tested Blaine for some common major allergens and the only was that he reacted to was dog! That is not good since Allie is his best bud and he loves all over her routinely. But hopefully we will get along OK with no major changes in our pet situation. At least Allie is contained on just the wood floor and is usually not on any carpeted areas where Blaine often plays or in his room. We are trying some Singulair to see if that helps and the doctor also got us set up with a nebulizer with albuterol and some steroids to keep on hand in case we have have any more croupy episodes. Hopefully some of this will help with the croupy stuff, as well as the cough and runny nose that he seems to have a lot. It will make for one very unhappy dog if she has to stay outside all of the time - she really hates to leave the house at bedtime or when we leave. Might also make for an unhappy boy if he can't love on his dog all the time.
