Weekend Anniversary Trip

Since we never take an actual vacation of any sort, John and I decided to at least take a short getaway to Michigan to celebrate our upcoming anniversary.  We decided to go up to South Haven since it is close, but very nice.  We originally planned on finding a nice B&B, but apparently that is not easy to do on 3 days notice for only a 1 night weekend stay!  But I did find a nice little resort (Sun N Sand) that was on the outskirts of South Haven and we stayed there.  We spent Saturday afternoon and evening enjoying the lighthouse, beach and downtown shops at South Haven, then went to Saint Joseph on Sunday.  The sunset over Lake Michigan was beautiful Saturday evening!  I just barely caught part of it on camera.
Ava's most favorite picture of our trip is the duck butt sticking up out of the water:)  We happened to call home and talk to her as we were watching the ducks and told her that I took this picture for her.  She was waiting all day Sunday for us to get home so that she could see the duck butts!
The was a cool-looking sailboat at South Haven that reminded me of an old pirate ship.

John and I at North Beach - it was such a perfect day on Saturday to enjoy the beach and a walk around town!  We enjoyed a nice dinner at one of the most recommended restaurants in the area, watched the sunset and then had ice cream at a local fudge and candy shop.  Then to top off our romantic night, we went to Walmart!  Yes, our romantic weekend getaway included a trip to Walmart.  But wait - there is a little romance involved in our Walmart trip.  We decided to stop and get some breakfast food so that we didn't have to get up and out right away in the morning to go to breakfast and feed our hungry bellies!  Turned out to be a great plan - I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast in bed in PJs and some more relaxing time before heading out of our room:)
Then we headed south to Saint Joseph on Sunday.  Another beautiful little harbor town.  Here I am on the pier with the lighthouse in the background.
John is ready to shoot some heavy artillery with this old cannon!
We also really enjoyed the Silver Beach carousel at Saint Joseph.  There was a wide variety of animals on the carousel, each one hand carved and painted - horses, elephant, panda, praying mantis, bear, chicken, ostrich and many more!  We also enjoyed watching the huge model train display beside the carousel.  I took a video of the trains running and Blaine wanted to watch  the train movie over and over and over again!  He likes trains a lot right now.
Overall, we had a great weekend - not often that just the two of us get away together.  It is nice to spend some relaxing time with my wonderful husband that I have had the privilege to be married to for 7 years on October 8.  I look forward to many more years together!
