First Experience With Stiches

This is a first for our kids, but I have a feeling that it will not be the last...

Anyway, my mom came and picked up the kids last Friday so that they could spend the weekend at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  But then I got a call about 8:30 Saturday morning telling me that they were on their way to the ER with Ava!!!!  Apparently, she and Blaine were chasing each other (making this whole episode Blaine's fault of course) and Ava fell and hit her head on the end table.  Not the call that you really want to get when you are 2 hours away.  So I talked to Ava on the phone quite a bit on the way to and at the hospital - but it does not compare at all to actually being there for your child when they are hurt and scared.  But she did great and was a very good patient according to all reports.  She was even eager to have Grandma send me this picture after the Dr placed 5 sutures in her head.  And the injury did not deter her at all from wanting to proceed with the original plans of going to Bounce Mania in the afternoon and bounce and slide with her cousins:)  And she has had to retell the story of what happened to her head multiple times this week at preschool, the babysitter's, AWANA's, etc.
But then taking the sutures out last night was a bit of another story - she does not behave nearly as well or as cooperative for Mom and Dad of course.  John and I fought with her quite a bit to get her to let me cut the sutures out.  But I finally got it accomplished and she realized that it didn't hurt at all.  So this is the "after" picture - I am sure that she will have a bit of a scar there, but it looks like it is healing up very nicely.
John and I were actually talking about this type of thing recently (after Blaine's fall a few days prior to this incident) and we both had planned on Blaine being the first one to suffer an injury requiring sutures - guess we were wrong!  But as Ava will tell you, this was at least Blaine's fault:)
