My baby girl turned 7 on May 8 - where does the time go?! We had lots of fun celebrating her day. To start the morning, birthday doughnuts are becoming a bit of a tradition around our house. Doughnuts, candles and a special balloon make a special start to the day rather than just getting ready and heading off to school like any other day.
I rearranged my work schedule so that I could be off for Ava's birthday. Her birthday party in her class was to be in the morning after the first recess. She really wanted not only me, but also Blaine, to come to school for her party. But she also wanted us to come for recess and lunch as well.Blaine and I headed to school in time for recess and Blaine had a blast with all the other kids. Ava acted like the protective mom for him the whole time. She then got an extra stool for him to sit with her at her desk during the class party. It was so adorable to watch them together. They had monster cookies and milk, then watched a movie and played a game. Blaine and I left after the birthday party, but then came back for the second recess and lunch. Ava was very excited about getting a blue tray at lunch. Birthday kids get a blue tray at lunch rather than the regular red ones and have a special package of fruit snacks - makes the birthday kid feel pretty special:)
Ava and I had talked a while back about what she wanted to do for her birthday and she requested a sleepover. I agreed to let her invite 5 girls to spend the night! So I brought 5 extra girls home from school on Ava's birthday. These are all good kids, but I am not used to having so many little girls around! There were some moments of typical girl drama, but overall, they did well. I put in a movie for them that would be over around 10:30 and I expected them to start drifting off by the end of the movie - but I was WRONG! These girls didn't go to sleep until after 11:00 and then were all up by 7:00 the next morning! But at least we didn't have to call any parents to come get any scared, crying girls late at night:)
We had chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and the girls all played for a while in the morning before their parents came to pick them up. After the last sleepover guest left, I crashed on the couch for a bit!
After a few hours to recoup from the sleepover, we had some family and friends over for a birthday supper! Since Ava is all about horses right now, she requested that Grandma put horses on her cake (even requesting exactly where to put horses:)). I had also gotten some horse cookies from the local Homestead bakery for the sleepover and also the cousins.
We obviously did a lot of celebrating and had a lot of fun. And we were all worn out by the end of the weekend!
