A while back, I had seen a Frozen Princess Ball advertised for little girls and the guys in their life. I mentioned it to John and he thought that it sounded like a great idea to take Ava on a date night so he got them registered to go. We told Ava about it and she was sooooo excited for her daddy-daughter date night. The night finally came on Saturday! We got her all dressed up in her fanciest, sparkliest dress and she even made John wear a tie (this only happens for grandparents funerals usually!). I think that they made a great looking couple!
He even took his date out to eat at Applebee's prior to the ball - this turned out to be an adventure in itself. Apparently, John's steak was of really poor quality and the manager came out to apologize and they made him another. After he got the second steak partially cut up, Ava had to go to the bathroom, so he took her. When they returned to their table, their food was gone and the table had been completely cleared and reset!! Obviously, there was no communication between the waiter and the busser. So they had to make them another meal, which meant that they were running late to the ball. However, after John's third attempt at eating a steak and a free meal, they were finally on their way. Sounded like they had a fantastic time - especially since one of Ava's best friends was there. I loved seeing some of the video of the girls dancing and shakin it:) I think that John had a blast watching them too. Ava told me that she got Daddy to dance with her, but only on the slow dances - no bustin a move for John evidently! Their date didn't end with the ball, as they joined some other couples for ice cream afterwards - most typical dates with John end with ice cream of course! I had a lot to hear about when they got home!!!
However, I do have one public service announcement to share with you that I learned this same day. DO NOT forget about boiling eggs when you are busy dolling up your princess for her big date with daddy! After 45 minutes when the water has all boiled out of the pan, eggs explode! And when they do this, it make a mess ALL over your kitchen!!
Since John took Ava out on a date, I had to take Blaine on a Mommy-Son date night too. Ours was not near as fancy or as eventful though. We did head to Rensselaer though and ate out at Dairy Queen. Then visited Tractor Supply where we found Blaine a new pair of puddle boots for his growing feet. He loved his new fireman boots and never took them off after trying them on at the store. He thought that it was great fun when I hoisted him up to plop his feet on the counter to check out:) Then a trip to Wal-Mart, and even though we didn't get anything fun for him, we did get to peruse the toy aisles. Nothing too exciting, but always fun to spend time with my little guy. And I must have really worn him out because he konked out by 8:00 on the way home! I had to carry him in, undress him, put pj's on and hold him up to pee so that I could put my date in bed early. So blessed to be able to have special opportunities like this with our kids! So much fun and many, many memories - from 3 steaks for a meal to exploding eggs to fun dances to puddle boot shopping.
