My parents have apparently been bored this winter and decided to host a carnival in their basement this weekend and invite friends and family for food and carnival games with prizes. It just so happens that the date of the carnival was the day before Mom's birthday so we decided that we should turn the carnival into a birthday party for her as well. So Blaine and I made a red velvet cake and the kids then decorated it Saturday morning. For those of you that ate some of that cake, never mind the finger licking going on during the decorating:) The kids made some signs and decorations as well. I also let them pick out a balloon to take to Grandma for her birthday - Grandma got a general Happy Birthday balloon with colorful streamers and also a Spiderman balloon;)
Needless to say, the kids were super excited to be going to grandma and grandpa's house for the weekend, having a birthday party and a carnival and also getting to play with their cousins!! The kids rocked the carnival games - Ava even got pretty good at making baskets all by herself to win prizes.Blaine ruled the ring toss game - he learned that if you step over the boundary tape and get right above the object you want to win, you can ring it much easier! Obviously, the carnies weren't policing their games for strict adherence to the rules. Surprisingly, the first item that he worked to ring was an adult toothbrush! He also won the second toothbrush prize in this game. Blaine got good at winning lots of prizes and soon had to get a second goodie bag for all his stuff. Carson loved all the games and action too - even if he does look a little confused here with the golf club and bouncy ball in the ring toss game! He enjoyed cross-training on all the different games:)
Samantha modeled the springy eye glasses that she won. What great prizes!!!
Uncle John quickly became Carson's best buddy when he helped him play basketball. Carson loves balls of all kinds and did not want to leave this game.
The duck pond was also a hit with fun prizes, including musical flutes - thanks Grandma! Carson ended up ruling this game after he learned to climb up on a chair and splash with ducks in each hand. Needless to say, he and everything around him ended up soaked, but he had tons of fun.
Grandma Bert and Grandpa Milt even joined in on the fun at the photo booth - such a daring trapeze artist and strong man! All in all, a bit crazy, but a fun evening had by all.
