For my birthday, John and my parents decided to help me with a backsplash in my kitchen. John and I made a trip to Lowe's a while back to pick out what I wanted and get all the supplies. I assured him that we could do this simple project ourselves - after all, it looks pretty easy on all the HGTV DIY shows! Mom and Dad also agreed to help with installation as part of my birthday present, so they made it over this past weekend to help tackle this project.
We were a little concerned about how difficult it may be to cut the tile but it proved not to be that bad after getting the hang of how to do it best. We got all of the tile laid on Saturday with the intent to do the grout on Sunday afternoon. However, I ended up heading out on an OB call right after church Sunday, so we got a late start. After just starting the grouting process, I got called out on another OB call, leaving John to work on the project alone. But I figured he would be fine and done with it all in an hour or so - after all, just smear it on, then wipe off the excess like on the DIY shows! He evidently didn't think it was all that simple and had only gotten half of it done by the time I got home after 8:00 that night. Monday night, we worked together to finish the other half of the grout. I didn't see what was so difficult about it - went pretty smoothly I thought. But apparently, John found it much more difficult Sunday when trying to apply and wipe off and fix PB&J for kids' supper all at the same time...
Anyway, we did finally get the project completed (except the coat of sealer that needs put on in a few days) and I LOVE it! It really looks nice and no more grease splatters, dirty walls, chipped paint, etc! A great birthday present:)
