We often don't have real exciting New Year's Eve plans, but this year was definitely not an exciting one for the books. Ava started not feeling well Monday, then running fever and feeling really yucky by Tuesday (New Year's Eve) so I stayed home from work with her. John came home after lunch not feeling well either. So John and Ava spent their New Year's on drugs and not moving much from the couch. In the meantime, Blaine and I played with his new Christmas toys a lot. Thanks to both grandparents, Blaine got the entire set of huge John Deere equipment - combine, tractor and auger cart and the grain truck and these have already gotten a lot of miles on them! So he always wants me to go downstairs and cut beans with him. But he won't let anyone drive his new big equipment. I can only drive the smaller semi that John got for Christmas. He keeps telling me that he is Rick and drives the combine and I am Cara to drive the semi! Obviously, he loved the time he spent in the fields with Rick this fall and yes, Cara was the one driving the semi to town the one day that we rode with them. I started driving the combine one day and he immediately stopped me and told me again that I was Cara and could only drive the semi:) He obviously loves his new toys!!!
I finally took Ava to the Dr on Friday since she was still running fever to verify that she was affected by some "viral crud" and an ear infection. She started feeling much better by Saturday but Blaine started running fever and coughing Friday night - ugh! And I have been dealing with a sinus infection and some cough as well - but moms can't really get sick, right? And then this snow storm hits! Our original weekend plans included my parents coming over to babysit while John and I went out to his work Christmas party Saturday night. But that was postponed due to the weather forecast and therefore, Mom and Dad didn't end up coming over either - leaving us with two very disappointed kids! And Blaine has still been feeling pretty puny and therefore, whiney and needy for mommy. So not an exciting weekend around here! But we did have quite the painting session going on this afternoon - with lots of masterpieces in the end! I have found that I have to have separate paints for the kids since Blaine does not care about cleaning brushes and mixing colors and Ava is finally old enough to do a good job at this and get very upset when Blaine messes up her paints! John and I had to paint with them as well. I loved the "masterpiece" of the firetruck that Blaine requested Daddy to paint and all the "fire" that Blaine then added:)
And now we are snowed in with work shut down for both John and I tomorrow, so another day cooped up at home. After all these sick and snow days, I am going to be ready to get out and do something else soon!
