Is It Spring Yet????

I don't mind normal IN winters too much, but this winter is a bit extreme for me!!!  I am tired of all the subzero temps and wind and snow.  Unfortunately, it looks like there is more to come this week:(  Anyway, I thought that I would share a few snow pictures with you since that is all we have had lately - snow, snow and more snow!  We are so blessed by our neighbor, Rick, who reliably pushes snow in our drive for us.  He has had his work cut out for him this year!  He always makes sure to have our drive pushed before we leave for work and clear wide paths for us.  On this particularly snowy day, I knew that he would be working at pushing snow various locations for a long time, so the kids took him out some snacks.  They were thrilled just to go see and talk to Rick, even it was just for a few minutes since it was so cold.
Today we had more snow adventures.  John had spent Wed-Fri this past week in IA at John Deere plants and so forth, so the kids were very excited to see Daddy come home Friday night (as was I)!  They were especially excited since they knew Daddy was bringing them surprises from John Deere - Ava ended up with a new hoody sweatshirt and Blaine got some work gloves and a forage harvester.  But, shortly after John got home, I got a call from a client and had to go on an OB call:(  The drive to the farm was fine, but the drive home was horrible!  Snowing and blowing with total white-out conditions most of the way.  I am normally a pretty confident driver in snow, but I was extremely nervous last night when I couldn't see the road.  There was a lot of praying on my way home and thankfully, the good Lord brought me home safely!  Unfortunately, the garage door apparently didn't go down when I came in last night for some reason and when John happened to wake up around 4:00 this morning, he realized that the garage door was open!  A very bad night for that to happen!  So Blaine and I ended up going out to shovel snow out of the garage this morning...
It was windy today, but if we stayed up by the house, the wind wasn't too bad and the 30o temps seemed almost balmy!  Conveniently, the big snow drift behind the house makes for a nice wind break to play behind.  Blaine also found out that it was fun to sled down as well.  Those warmer temps this morning made for a nice, icey layer on top of the snow and a great sled track!
Since we had to move the Gator and shovel snow off of it (as well as everything else in the garage) this morning, Blaine decided to take it out for a spin.  He soon figured out that he really needs some snow tires for that thing if he is going to ride around in the snow!  After getting stuck in this drift, he hollered for me to come shovel it out for him.  Instead, I suggested he back up and stay on the driveway and out of the drifts since I wasn't going to shovel them all for him.  But then after he would stop on the driveway, he couldn't start again and would just spin his wheels.  So then I would have to stop my garage shoveling and go push him again, and again, and again...

This drift provided lots of entertainment for Blaine today!  He would repeatedly climb up on it, slide down it, shovel it, sled on it, etc.  It was also a lot of fun this afternoon when Daddy got the Ranger out and went "drift bustin!"  Throughout all the snow adventures today though, Ava decided to stay inside and stay warm.  But she surprised us this morning by having an early Birthday surprise for Blaine and I when we came in.  She made us a Happy Birthday picture with a John Deere tractor and a rainbow on it.  And she also had a box full of her toys that she wanted to give to Blaine:)  He was super-excited to become the new owner of some of her old toys and it was nice to see Ava showing some love to her brother in this way!
So we did actually have a good snow day today, but I am still ready for spring and am NOT looking forward to the additional snow and -20 to -40 wind chills that I see in the forecast for this week!!!!
