Busy Summer Days!

It has been pretty crazy around here lately with all the activities of summer.  We are still here but here are a few of the things we have been up to:

  • Fairs - White, Jasper, Newton, Huntington County Fairs and will visit Benton County Fair tomorrow night!  The kids love seeing all the animals and I am sure that our day will be coming when we show animals of our own.  Of course, Blaine's favorite part of the fair is the tractors.  He loves seeing the antique tractors, tractors on display from implement companies, farm toy scene projects and any other tractors he can find.  When we visited the Huntington fair, he was getting tired of looking at pigs and dragged me out wanting to see tractors.  As we stepped out of the pig barn, he shouted "Tractor!" and pointed across the grounds to the tractor and manure spreader by the cattle barns, so we had to go see this tractor.  He was rather disappointed in the exhibit hall though, as Huntington County does not have a farm toy scene project and we was REALLY wanting to see tractors in this building too.
  • Camp Grandma (& Grandpa) - The kids went to my parents' house for the annual "Camp Grandma", although Blaine kept specifying that he was going to "Camp Grandpa".  By the time Mom came to pick them up, he was telling her that he was going to "Camp you and Grandpa" though so I guess he figured out he better show Grandma a little love since she was his ride to go see Grandpa!  The kids did lots of craft projects, swam in the pond, played with cousins, drove tractor with Grandpa and many other fun things.  They also visited Paige's Crossing to play miniature golf and arcade games and drive go-karts.  Apparently, Grandpa scouted out the cars and picked the fastest one for him and Blaine - Blaine is still talking about how "somebody souped up their car - probably Uncle Doug!"
  • Gardening - It is the time of year when it becomes harder and harder to keep up with the garden.  So I have canned lots of green beans (and still finding homes for more!), froze onions and zucchini and LOTS of corn.  In addition, we have been eating lots of potatoes, zucchini everything, corn, carrots, lettuce and beans.
  • Playing - In between all of the other things, the kids have enjoyed lots of time playing outside, especially with water!  Amazing how much fun a water hose can be!  Then add in some water balloons or buckets or squirt guns and that means lots more squeals of laughter.  They have loved ambushing Daddy with squirt guns the last two nights, but Daddy fights back with his bigger squirt gun:)  So fun to watch them (all 3) having so much fun.
