Happy Birthday to Us!!

I love being able to share my birthday with Blaine - even if it means that my birthday doesn't get as much attention any more.  Birthday are over-rated at this point in my life, but soooooo exciting for a 4 year old!  Last year, I started getting doughnuts for the kids for breakfast on their birthdays and I think that it is becoming a bit of a tradition.  Blaine was already talking about birthday doughnuts a few days before his birthday - so I figured I better make a doughnut stop the day before!  He loved his birthday doughnuts with candles and his birthday balloon for breakfast.  It is fun to add a little celebration on a special day rather than just get up and ready for school/daycare/work like any other day.
Since our birthday fell on my day off work, Blaine and I were able to spend the day together at home.  We made cupcakes for his preschool treats the following day.  He loved helping - wanting to mix the batter himself, put the liners in the pan and help me frost them.  After getting him started on frosting a cupcake though, I soon realized that he was going to have to be limited to frosting a single cupcake.  There was a lot of licking going on!  His frosted cupcake became his dessert for lunch while I frosted the rest for preschool.  As it turned out then, we had a snow storm that afternoon/evening and school was cancelled the next day.  That meant that we had a lot of cupcakes to eat!  We gave Rick a morning snack when he came to push snow and we took them to the neighbor's for supper and we still have some to eat at home.
With the snowy weather, there was no AWANA that evening, so we all stayed home together.  I fixed burgers for supper since that is about Blaine's favorite food and he got to open presents.  He loved his new John Deere sweatshirt and new bike!
After helping Daddy put the bike together, it had to go to the basement for a test run.  He was really upset that Dad put the training wheels on it, but we assured him that they can come off as soon as he gets the hang of the bigger bike and can get outside with more space to ride.  He is obviously too big for training wheels:)
All in all, we had a good birthday and some good family time.  Blaine is really looking forward to his birthday party this weekend though!  What fun is a birthday with no party?!
