Fall Break at the Zoo!

We normally are pretty dull and boring, not doing anything exciting or going on vacations for school breaks.  This year was no exception for fall break - especially since this is a rather busy time of the year for John.  However, I decided to take Monday off work and take the kids to the Indy Zoo since the forecast was 75o and sunny.  It ended up being a great day!  The weather was gorgeous and we had a fun time together, even though John missed out.  We were not there for the Zoo Boo activities, but the zoo was all decorated for Halloween and that made for some extra fun.
We had visited the zoo a year and a half ago and they were working on building a new orangutan exhibit at that time.  It is now open and very impressive!  The orangutans can go all over inside and also climb up on cables and platforms high above the zoo around their building.  We all loved these animals and there were zoo keepers around to tell us about them and their names.  Ava enjoyed interacting with this orangutan - I kidded her that this was a picture of her looking in a mirror:)
Blaine was enjoying watching the meerkats - this guy was obviously relaxing and letting it all hang out!  Ava even pointed out to me that she knew this one was a boy.  When I asked her how she knew, she smiled and just pointed between his legs.  Oh boy - not looking forward to having these kinds of talks!
Overall, it was a great day and I was glad that we decided to make the trip to do something fun for one day of Fall Break at least.  Actually, the rest of the break was filled with a trip to my parents and lots of birthday parties, so it wasn't totally a dull, boring long weekend:)
