November Storm Project

The middle of November is not typically the time for thunder storms and tornados, but that is exactly what we saw yesterday around IN/IL.  Thankfully, we were not in the path of any tornados and we did not have any damage - just a few limbs to pick up.  Thousands of others were not so fortunate.  There was a tornado touchdown just 4 miles away that decimated some huge elevator grain bins - a bit too close for comfort!  We were out of power for about 7 hours, but that was the extent of the problems at our house.  Hundreds of others in the area were out of power as well and apparently everyone decided to go out to eat on a powerless Sunday night, as we joined lots and lots of others at KFC for supper.  We did become a bit productive at least after the storm while the power was out.  We keep talking about adding things in the basement and outside for the kids to play on and we decided to construct a balance beam for in the basement.  Blaine immediately went to grab his hard hat before heading to the toolshed to build!
The kids were good help.  We were very selective on the scrap pieces that we used so that we didn't have to make a lot of cuts since those had to be made by hand.  The cordless drill was very handy though in the powerless situation!  In the end, the kids had fun helping and were happy with the final product.  Now Ava can practice her balancing skills in the basement whenever she pleases:)  Blaine actually did pretty good on it, but isn't quite as into that right now.
Please join us as we continue to pray for those families that were not so fortunate to be able to enjoy a family project in the storm aftermath and lost homes, businesses, toolsheds and lives in these devastating storms!
