Trick Or Treat!

We had a great time Trick or Treating this week for Halloween.  We had an old monkey costume of Ava's that fit Blaine for this Halloween, so his costume was easy.  Ava then decided that if Blaine was a monkey, she wanted to be a banana.  So we had to decide how to make her into a banana!  I did look at some on-line, but didn't really love them and I hate to spend a lot of money on costumes that you wear once.  So we decided to make a sandwich-board type costume out of cardboard.  Ava had a great time helping me paint it.  And I thought that it actually turned out pretty good - and she even had tons of compliments on it.
We have been Trick or Treating kind of all week long.  We started Tuesday by going to the nursing home where John's Grandma lives.  They were having a Halloween party and all the residents were handing out candy to the kids.  We had a good time and the kids left with lots of candy.  They also loved this huge cat that was there.
Then Ava had a Halloween party at preschool on Wednesday and came home with more candy.  Then we hit up a couple of neighbors Wednesday night before Ava and I went to church for AWANA's.  We had a Trunk or Treat at AWANA's where the kids got to go around the parking lot collecting candy from several people distributing candy from their decorated trunks.  All the kids went home with LOTS of candy.  But we weren't done Trick or Treating!  The kids and I left for my parents Friday afternoon and Trick or Treated at my grandparent's, my brother's and my parent's houses.  The kids had overflowing pumpkins again after that trip!  One of Ava's best treats was a can of silly string from Grandma Bert - she put it to good use on my uncle:)
So after this Halloween week, we have more candy than we can ever eat (much will find it's way to work with John) and lots of other Halloween toys and surprises.  And a little boy that is constantly wanting "tandy" or a "treat."  And John and I can satisfy our chocolate cravings by raiding the kids' candy bowl too:)
