Purdue SpringFest

I decided to take Ava down to Purdue campus for the annual SpringFest this year. It was a little chilly Saturday, but we had a great day regardless. There is sooooooo much for kids to see and do at this event. To make it all better, my parents, my brother & family and a friend met us there too! Ava especially liked spending the extra time with Cody, Aubrey, Samantha, Mamaw, Papa, Lauren and even Uncle Dougie, Brandy and Amy! If you have never been to SpringFest, it is when all different departments and schools on campus have an open house and activities geared toward kids. Here are a few of the things that we enjoyed:

We made a rocket and Ava really enjoyed shooting it off! It was a bit windy, so we had to chase it a ways to find it after shooting it though.
We also made slime! Ava really enjoyed the vortex and how it shook and vibrated her tube while making slime.

The kids even got a chance to sit in the Boilermaker Extra Special. For those non-Purdue followers, the Extra Special is a little smaller version of the Boilermaker Special. We did see the Boilermaker Special as well. Ava LOVES trains, so this was even more fun!

We got cheeseburgers and hot dogs for lunch and had a picnic on the lawn. I think that the food tent was a little overwhelmed by our order for 8 hamburgers, 4 hot dogs and accompanying drinks and chips:) But all the kids enjoyed the picnic.

All of the animals were a big hit for the kids. We spent a lot of time at the petting zoo at the vet school. Ava enjoyed holding chicks, petting a calf and goat and expecially liked petting this gilt - that's my girl!!
All in all, we had a really fun day. We did miss having Daddy with us - but he is working a lot more this time of year though. To top things off for Ava, she got to go to Cara's house and make cookies after we got home. I had a pig butthole to fix (i.e. a rectal prolapse) and John wasn't home yet, so she got to enjoy some cookie baking with Cara, Megan and Kelsie until Daddy came to get her. Since I was out that way anyway and didn't want to go home and fix supper, I picked up a pizza at Wolcott on the way home and had a good supper. And to let Ava spend a little more time with Daddy since she hasn't seem him much the past couple of days, I mowed the yard while they played together after supper. I should have taken some gloves though - it was a bit chilly on the lawn mower! But nothing a hot shower didn't fix:)
