Fireworks and Camp Out!

We didn't have big plans for the July 4th weekend and the kids had been wanting to set up the tent that we borrowed from Grandma Woods and have a camp out for some time, so we decided this would be the weekend for it.  They eagerly helped set up the tent Friday and had fun playing in it the rest of the day - everything is more fun in a tent:)
The other super fun event for the day was going to the July 4th festival parade at Wolcott.  They love parades - mostly for the candy I think;).  But they also got to see and watch the parade with some friends.  We then made a quick lap through the festivities before heading back home to take naps.  They were a bit reluctant to take naps, but both did take a nap since they were told they needed to in order to stay up late enough to go to the fireworks later.  Shortly after naptime, I got a call from a client and had to go pull pigs.  Blaine wanted to go with me, so John quickly packed him a sack supper and I headed off with my helper.  He knew exactly what I needed to do - talking about the long gloves and so forth on the way.  As I got prepared at the farm, he got my bucket of OB tools out of my vehicle and carried it to the barn for me - he has been paying attention on previous OB calls apparently!  He spent more time playing with the kittens than pulling pigs though:)  But he was a good helper and we still made it home in time to get a shower and go to watch fireworks!
The kids were soooo excited to go watch fireworks - we haven't taken them before (I know - what deprived children!).  So they put their jammies on and we packed some popcorn, drinks, and blanket in the truck and found a spot along the road a mile out of town to park and watch.  They also took their ear protectors - mainly just because they love them, not that the fireworks are really that loud!  But they were prepared!  They loved the fireworks experience and ended up not getting to bed until 11:00 - naps were obviously a good thing!
Unfortunately, after going to bed that night, John later awoke sick with the stomach virus that had hit the rest of us already:(  Ava started off with the bug a week prior, puking right after we arrived at daycare.  Blaine then started puking in the middle of the night at Mom and Dad's on Saturday.  He managed to cover himself, me and the bed (John got some good bonding experience with his MIL while cleaning puke chunks out of bedding outside in the middle of the night!).  And this coating in puke apparently was a high enough infectious dose to overcome a Mom's immune system even, as I got sick Monday night after the t-ball ice cream party.  So we all took our turns with the puking, diarrhea and lack of appetite over this week and a half!  I don't want to repeat that at all!!!!
Although John felt pretty puny most of the day Saturday, he did manage to still spend the night in the tent with us for the much anticipated camp out.  The kids were extremely excited about this adventure too.  So we blew up the air mattress for John and I and drug out the sofa bed mattress for the kids and prepared for a night out.  We even got in some game time and stories before heading to bed.  It took a while for the kids to be quiet and settle down to go to sleep, but once they fell asleep, they actually slept well all night - through the wind and rain even.  I, on the other hand, do not understand the excitement of sleeping in a tent on an air mattress when my nice comfy bed is right inside the house.  I was awake often, tossing and turning or repeatedly covering up the kids that kick their blankets off during the chilly night.  But it was a worthwhile experience for all of us and the kids loved the tent experience!
So, other than the unplanned GI virus that hit the Woods household, we did have a good Independence Day weekend with some new experiences for the kids.  Good thing that we didn't have a lot more planned since John spent part of this weekend feeling so yucky.
