I went with Ava's class on a field trip to Exploration Acres today. It was a fun, interesting time spending the day with fifty-some kindergartners:) The kids all had a blast. There were several things for the kids to play with in the play area and we took a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch for the kids to all pick their own pumpkin. I realized that it can take a looooong time for some kids to find their "perfect pumpkin!" The kids had a lot of fun with the rubber ducky races here - pumping water down the raceway to float their ducks to the other end.
The huge pile of straw was a huge hit as well - just a bunch of straw to jump in, play in, make "straw angels" in and so on. I think that I have spent too much time baling straw in my youth and getting straw stuck all over me to really see the attractiveness of this. The kids ended up with straw ALL over them, but had tons of fun. And I kept getting a bit irritated hearing all the kids and adults alike talking about the "hay" - just a bit of a pet peeve I guess. We have a long way to go in terms of ag education I guess:)Ava enjoyed the straw tunnel as well - it was at least padded for the kids crawling through it!
And she is giving a high five to this pumpkin guy:) All in all, a great day with fantastic weather for a field trip to the pumpkin patch! It was also nice to spend a little time with Ava's class and get to know some of the other students a bit.
