That is kind of how I would describe my husband in a fireworks store. Like most guys, he likes to play with fire and loud booms but we rarely spend the money on fireworks. He asked me if we could get some this year and I obliged:) So we made a trip to Rensselaer for supper Saturday night, then to the fireworks store. Convienently, it was time for me to nurse Blaine, so I stayed in the car with Blaine while John and Ava went fireworks shopping unsupervised. I thought later that we should have discussed a price range, but he didn't get too carried away. We let Ava stay up late to watch them Sunday night. We started with a few of the small ones and the snakes before dark.
Ava is ready for the fireworks with her hearing protectors:) After the first "dragon" firework that let out a squeal, we had to don the ear muffs before continuing. She kept them on even while watching the fireworks off in the distance - the boom from the Fowler fireworks were too loud as well, even though we were over 12 miles away from them! Blaine was happy to sit with Cara and watch a few before he headed to bed.She also had a great time catching lightning bugs - this is a real treat since she usually is in bed before they come out. The last one she caught, we had to take inside in the dark bathroom so that I could show her how its butt lights up. Last night, she had a whole bug box full of lighted butts!
Then today we went to the big Wolcott festival. Ava likes parades (even though she wears her hearing protectors there too with all the sirens), but today, she actually got to be in the parade and thought that was pretty cool too. She rode in a gator with Daddy waving and throwing out candy for Castongia's parade entry. Blaine and I found a shady spot to watch and he slept through most of the parade.
